Here i have explored the common conventions of music magazines and applied them onto an appropriate background image. This has benefitted my future work on my magazine as i now have a stronger mindset on the approach i should take in relation to structure and the formatting of the page.

Before creating my magazine i wanted to improve my understanding of what a Punk audience will expect within a magazine. More specifically, i want them to be able to recognise their genre through simple aspects of the magazine for example; font style and colours. Due to this, i carried out some research to condense some ideas and common features used within existing Punk magazines and products so that i could utilise them within my magazine.

Here i have analysed an existing interview done by NME magazine. It is interviewing the Sex Pistols ( a band from my target genre) and from this i hope to see what sort of characters they are and the thoughts and beliefs they have towards certain things. I will focus on answers that highlight the Punk way of life and the way their music came about and was created.

Here is a CD Cover i designed for my front cover. I utilised the filters within Photoshop to create this and i purposely designed it so that it fitted the style of the band and magazine.

Readership Profile

In order to collect this information i conducted a focus group. Within this group i gained a greater understanding of what my target audience would want from a music magazine as i confronted people who would fit the stereotype of my genre.

For the contents page i again heavily used the black and white style however, i incorporated coloured images into the design to see what effect they had. As a finished page i am disappointed with the outcome and this is mainly due the empty white space that i have left. Also, in future work, if i am going to have black and white as the majority then it appears best to just maintain the black and white as small inclusions of colour does not work well. Furthermore, i will need to consider my background choice for the contents page. Although this design is not completely ineffective, the nature of my music genre will expect a far more grown up, photograph based approach that relates to the theme of the magazine.
